Knights Making News
Sir Knight John Hartling did not think twice about departing
for Florida to help victims of Hurricane Irma. He was
accompanied by his son Patrick who is an EMT. They traveled
with an ambulance crew to help where they could. John is
certified by the American Red Cross as a shelter manager and has managed local shelters in minor disasters, but this time it
was of a much larger magnitude. Once in Florida, he was assigned to manage a 250-bed shelter for a two week period that involved 16 to 18 hour days for him. Returning to
Monument, John had many stories to share – some tragic, some humorous, and one with him getting in the middle of a fist fight and ending up with a “shiner” trying to break it up.
Sir Knight Fred Seiter explains the upcoming Tootsie Roll
Campaign to assembled members at a Council business meeting. Fred once again volunteered to chair the campaign
and coordinated with Safeway, King Soopers and Wal-Mart to
allow Knights to stand outside their stores and solicit funds
from customers. Then he had the task of recruiting council
members to actually stand outside those stores for two hour
shifts regardless of the weather. While not known to most
Knights of the Council, Fred had to fill in when members
could not fulfill their assigned time slots or when no one
volunteered to fill a slot. Thanks for going beyond the call of
duty, Fred! Because of your efforts, and the Knights who
helped at each store, a total of $2,843.06 was raised for the
intellectually handicapped in the Tri Lakes area.
