What is Lent?
Lent is the annual season of preparation for the Most Holy of all Seasons in the Church, Easter. It begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Thursday evening, when the Triduum begins.
  • All healthy Catholics from age 18-59 fast and abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday and abstain from meat all other Fridays during Lent
  • Youth ages 14-17 are also required to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday
  • When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal.
We are also urged to renew ourselves spiritually throughout Lent by practicing the three main Lenten disciplines: Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving.

St. Peter Lenten Almsgiving Project

For the 2025 St. Peter almsgiving project, we will collect donations for the Mundakayam Medical Trust (MMT) Hospital in Kerala, India. Opened in 1965 by the Medical Mission Sisters, the MMT provides healthcare for mothers and babies in rural and underserved communities. Donations from St. Peter will be used to buy 24 neonatal ICU beds at a cost of $2,500 each.

You may pick up brown pouches in the vestibule area or church office to collect your almsgiving donations throughout the season of Lent.

Please return the brown pouch with your donation by Easter Sunday. There will be a collection basket in the gathering area.

Lenten Suggestions
